Some places in the home are just magnets for dust and dirt. It’s important to know where they are so you can take a few extra minutes to wipe them down more frequently.
Tackling these areas takes less than 5 minutes but will have your home feeling fresh and clean every time.
1. Your home entrance
As you can imagine, your home entrance is the main place for dirt to accumulate. If it’s not cleaned on a regular basis, you may notice your home getting dustier and grittier. Luckily, it’s easy to resolve: Simply sweep the floor, hoover, or mop and shake the mats in your hallway. This gives an instant freshness to the home.
2. The Fridge
Spillages occur in the fridge, it can’t be helped. However, it’s essential to deal with them as soon as possible otherwise, it will fester and start to smell.
Try dampening a reusable cleaning towel with warm water (because paper towels are wasteful!). Mix half a teaspoon of dish soap and 2 cups of water. You can also add baking powder for more stubborn stains.
Why not time your fridge cleaning with your weekly food shop? This is helpful as it’ll remind you to use up your food before it stinks up your fridge.
Tip: Every time you go food shopping, pull everything out of the fridge and give the shelves a spray and a wipe. If there’s any old food, move that to the front and put the fresher stuff in the back.
Doing this often will cut down on food waste too.
3. Your bathroom sink counter
So much occurs on the counter of your sink. It’s a magnet for dirt.
Once a week, remove all your beauty and personal care items and give them a wipe-down with a microfiber cloth (these are great for picking up grime and dust without leaving any streaks behind) and that cleaning solution you used on your fridge. Once you wipe down the counter, use the rest on your sink and mirrors too.
After that, declutter all the items on your counter. Anything you decide to keep out should be wiped down as well.
And there you go! A little wipe-down can go a long way toward making your home feel spick-and-span on any given day.
